#bookaday

May 28, 2018

Just finished Amy Fellner Dominy's book The Fall of Grace. It had the correct amount of suspense to keep me reading. I'm always looking for things to add to our school library. This will be a definate add. I have several high school students who will love it. We are in a small school... this is set in a larger school. The main character is very rich. We are not. However, there is a trust issue that is explored in this book that readers of all means can relate too. We have all had expectations that fell short and we have all felt betrayed at some point or another. Those two themes alone will carry the reader forward through the next chapter anxiously awaiting the next scene.

Began #bookaday today!  I chose Ghost by Jason Reynolds.  I'm probably the last librarian on earth who hasn't read it.  It's a great story.  Even though my students live in a small town, I think they will relate to Castle's story.  Small town or big town, we all have problems like no money, sometimes dangerous situations and hopefully, that one adult who takes care of us.  It's a very good read and will definately be booktalked this year (maybe even read aloud!)

Today is the last day before I head back to school for Spring semester.  What plans do I have for the library?  My plan is to keep encourage and inspire students to continue to read for enjoyment, just because.

SUMMER SCHOOL IN THE LIBRARY...

This week we are focusing on Oceans and Seas.  We have learned about all types of animals.  One of the most fascinating things I have taken away from this is that some very complicated animals underwater don't have brains.  Amazing!  Each student has created a character from a sea animal and will be expanding that as the week progresses.

SUMMER SCHOOL IN THE LIBRARY...

This summer I have the task of teaching a 6-7-8 combination class.  We have had a great time.  The first week was themed "Our of this world."  We focused on space flights and astronauts.  Each students completed research on an astronaut and prepared a short paper to present to the class.  We also talked about things that go wrong in space.   We were amazed at the changes a body goes through going into orbit, and coming back.
